What’s New in C\TREK?

  1. CQ “Domain” – although not defined as a domain, the use of the CEKL console command to cancel tasks within CICS has its own anchor block and statistics. This new option will provide information regarding the use of the CEKL transaction including information contained in the anchor block such as addresses and statistics. In addition, C\TREK will display the contents of the console buffer used to send the last output message to the user and the internal trace table used to maintain an audit of the times CEKL was used.

  2. Look-Aside Hit Ratio Information – this new option is available by entering SU/FILE/G. This option takes a ten second view at the file activity in the system and reports the actual look-aside hit ratio being attained by the file. This statistic is computed by C\TREK for NSR files even though the information is not available from the CICS statistics for NSR files. The statistic reported by CICS for LSR files is related to the LSR buffer and not the LSR file because a particular buffer size may be used by shared by many files. Therefore, the LSR statistic may actually mask poor performing files.

  3. Pipeline Domain – this is a new domain available in CICS/TS V3.R1. The major control blocks and the pipeline information being used. This facility can be viewed by entering “PI” in the main menu.

  4. DB2 Thread Analysis – a new thread analysis transaction has been added to the DB2 section. This option can be obtained by entering D2/D2TX. The purpose of this transaction is to identify dynamic transactions that have a high use volume that could benefit from having threads assigned to reduce the CPU overhead of going to the pool.

  5. NQ Resources – a new option has been added to the NQ Domain to make the access to queued resources faster. Previously one had to issue NQ/NQ2 in order to get the list of the pools. If you then wanted to see the resources that were queued, you would have to place your cursor on the desired pool and press the enter key. There was no simple way of knowing which pool had any queued resources. You now can use NQ/NQUE to obtain a list of all outstanding queues regardless of the pool.

  6. MXT Recommendation – the Monitor information has been modified to help identify a recommendation for the MXT value. Over-allocation of MXT slots can result in wasted CPU cycles when using Workload Manager (WLM) transaction and region goals. Under allocation can result in wasted CPU cycles and the loss of available resources. Therefore, setting the MXT parameter can result in improving the CICS performance. The MXT recommendation can be found by selecting option MN/PBST.

  7. Time of Day Clock – this feature was available in the Hex Memory Display (XX/DHEX) that allowed the placing of the cursor below a TOD value and by pressing PF Key 20 (Shift and PF Key 8), C\TREK would return the date and time represented by the TOD. However, if you wanted to enter a particular TOD, you would have to alter storage in order to place the desired TOD value. This is no longer required by simply using the option XX/TODC that allows you to enter the particular TOD desired.
